About
For those that don’t know me, here are the basics… My name is Sarah Carson, and I live in Winnipeg, MB. I grew up in rural Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg to pursue a degree in Global Political Economy at the University of Manitoba. I’m lucky to be able to say that I’ve worked in politics, international student exchange, academic research, customer service, and non-profit management and communications.
Non-Profit Communications
…because I want people to know what we’re doing. Over the past couple of years, I have become involved in a few different non-profit organizations and I’ve found that I tend to gravitate towards the communications side of things. Graphic design, video, web development, social media and event planning. Love it all!
Much of the work I have done has been for the Harvest Moon Society, a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable lifestyles, local food, environment stewardship, local music, and delivers a suite of educational programming from the Harvest Moon Learning Centre in Clearwater, MB.
Local Food
…because we are what we eat. The local food movement has gained a lot of traction in the last few years, and with good reason. Food security, sustainable agriculture, supporting the local economy and protecting our environment are all intimately related to our food system. I’ve been lucky to become involved as an organizer with the Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative, a Manitoba-based group of local farmers and eaters trying to build a more just and sustainable food system. Working to create a network of local food buying in Winnipeg, MB has been one of my most rewarding and challenging projects.
Politics
…because I want to know what makes the world tick. A policy and news junkie, I find myself fascinated with the choices that governments make, why they make them, and who was involved in the decision-making process. Having worked in politics, I’ve come to love the challenge that comes with working in an ever-changing environment and learning new things on the spot.
Travel
…because there is so much to see. I was fortunate enough to participate in a student exchange to northern France a number of years back. I caught my first travel bug. Since then I’ve been to the Caribbean, North Africa and travelled much of Europe. I would love to live and work abroad again one day.
